Medikal may not have walked away with the night’s biggest crown at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, but TGMA 27 still marked one of the strongest and most defining runs of his career.
For an artiste once remembered for a frustrating year of multiple nominations without a single win, this edition told a different story entirely; one of redemption, consistency and finally, reward.
Medikal secured four major awards on the night, a personal best at the TGMA.

He won Best Hiplife/Hip-Hop Artiste of the Year, cementing his place in the genre he has long influenced. He also picked up the Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year with his hit “Shoulder,” a track that dominated airwaves and social platforms. The same record also earned him Best Hiplife Song of the Year, completing a strong sweep for the project.
His fourth win came through Collaboration of the Year, cementing his versatility and continued relevance in Ghana’s competitive music space.
One of the most talked-about moments of the evening, however, was the tight race for Artiste of the Year.
Medikal was among the names strongly tipped for the top honour, backed by a visibly active fanbase that pushed his campaign throughout the season.
In the end, the category went in a different direction, with a tie-break moment involving Black Sherif shaping the final outcome.
Still, Medikal’s TGMA 27 story is less about what slipped away and more about how far he has come.
He is no longer the emerging voice trying to break through, nor fully in legacy territory. He occupies that demanding middle ground where relevance must be defended repeatedly. On this night, he did just that.
There were louder stories at TGMA 27, bigger crowns, bigger headlines. But Medikal’s night carried something quieter and arguably more important, which is the power of consistency.
