Ghanaian artist Kojo Blak has made a strong statement at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, with his breakout hit “Excellent” sweeping two awards; Best New Artiste and Best Afrobeats/Afropop Song.

It’s a remarkable debut showing at the awards scheme, marking his first-ever appearance at the TGMA stage, and he did not leave empty-handed.

He beat the likes of Gona Boy, Lalid, and Adom Kiki, all of whom made their mark in the year under review.

Often described as the “Artiste of the Year for new entrants,” the Best New Artiste category is widely regarded as one of the most coveted at the TGMA, spotlighting the most promising act from the year’s new crop of musicians.

The win capped off an impressive run, as Kojo Blak secured three nominations in total at TGMA 27. While he missed out on the Most Popular Song of the Year award, which went to Medikal for “Shoulder,” his overall impact remained one of the standout newcomer stories of the ceremony.

“Excellent” lived up to its name on the night, not just as a hit record, but as the track that introduced Kojo Blak on a bigger stage.

For an artiste making his first appearance on the TGMA radar, Kojo Blak’s run with “Excellent” has firmly positioned him as one of the fresh voices to watch in Ghana’s Afrobeats and Afropop space.
