The Black Stars have dropped in the latest FIFA rankings released on April 1, highlighting growing concerns over the team’s recent performances.

The four-time African champions fell two places from 72nd in the previous rankings, continuing a period of inconsistent results on the international stage. Despite the global dip, Ghana remain 14th on the continent under the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings.

The latest setback follows a disappointing international window in Europe, where the Black Stars suffered consecutive defeats, losing 5–1 to Austria in Vienna on March 27 and falling 2–1 to Germany in Stuttgart three days later.

These results leave Ghana as the lowest-ranked side in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face strong opponents including England (4th), Croatia (11th), and an improving Panama (33rd).

The poor run has already prompted changes, with head coach Otto Addo relieved of his duties as the Ghana Football Association begins the search for a replacement.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico, followed by a match against Wales on June 2 as part of their final World Cup preparations. Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 28.
