Owner of New Edubiase United FC, Alhaji Abdul Salam Yakubu, has come to the defence of Bibiani Gold Stars striker Samuel Attah Kumi following criticism surrounding his record-breaking performance on the final day of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Attah Kumi came under scrutiny after scoring six goals in Bibiani Gold Stars’ emphatic 8-3 victory over relegated Techiman Eleven Wonders FC, a result that secured him the league’s Goal King award.

The prolific striker’s remarkable display not only helped Gold Stars finish their campaign on a high but also saw him make history as the first player to score six goals in a single Ghana Premier League match.

The performance, however, sparked debate within sections of the football fraternity, particularly due to the nature of the final-day fixture and the heavy scoreline against an already relegated Eleven Wonders side.

Responding to the criticism, Salam Yakubu dismissed doubts about the legitimacy of Attah Kumi’s achievement, insisting the forward possesses the talent and quality to deliver such performances.

“There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a player scoring six goals in a match. I know the player personally; he’s naturally talented and capable of delivering that kind of performance,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Yakubu’s comments add to growing support for the striker, whose final-day heroics ensured he emerged as the top scorer of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Attah Kumi’s six-goal haul capped an impressive individual campaign and highlighted his importance to Bibiani Gold Stars, who mounted a strong title challenge throughout the season.

Despite their strong finish, Gold Stars narrowly missed out on the league title, ending the campaign in second place with 60 points, two behind champions Medeama SC.

While debate over the final-day result continues, Yakubu insists Attah Kumi’s achievement should be celebrated as a reflection of his natural ability and attacking prowess rather than questioned.
