Four people were rescued following two separate road traffic accidents along the Peki–Asikuma stretch in the Volta Region on Sunday, 24th May 2026.

The incidents occurred within hours of each other and triggered emergency rescue operations.

The first crash happened near the Customs Barrier at Asikuma in the morning and involved a Mitsubishi L200 pickup with registration number GR 1226-22 travelling from Accra to Peki.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and rescued one occupant who had become trapped in the vehicle.

The pickup sustained partial damage, particularly to its engine compartment and rear section.

While rescue operations from the first incident were ongoing, responders encountered a second accident at Asikuma Junction.

The second crash involved a MAN diesel cargo truck with registration number GT 4958 W transporting yams from Bimbilla to Accra.

Rescue teams launched another operation and successfully freed three victims who had become trapped in the vehicle.

All rescued victims were removed from the wreckage and handed over for medical attention.

Authorities say investigations are underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to both accidents.

The incidents have renewed calls for motorists to exercise caution and remain alert while travelling on major highways.
