A man believed to be in his late 20s has been partially burnt and is receiving treatment at Bawjiase Polyclinic after angry Okada riders set him on fire during an attempted robbery at Awutu Adawukwa in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The suspect was apprehended by the Bawjiase District Police Command after the incident.

According to police sources, the suspect hired an Okada rider to travel from Anomaa-Wobi to Adawukwa.

Upon reaching the township, the suspect requested the rider to take him down a nearby bush path to visit a construction site, unaware that accomplices were lying in wait to attack the rider.

Sources say that sensing danger, the rider demanded payment upfront.

The suspect, who had earlier agreed to pay GHC 40, was unable to produce the money.

Shortly afterward, two men emerged from the bush and attempted to attack the rider. Other Okada riders nearby quickly alerted their colleagues.

While two of the suspects managed to escape, the main suspect was caught.

In retaliation, the angry riders poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

The Bawjiase District Police Command intervened in time to rescue the man, who was then rushed to Bawjiase Polyclinic for treatment.

Police reports indicate that a knife and acid were recovered from the suspect’s bag during a search.

This incident follows another violent case reported by Adom News where two robbers were killed after attacking and killing an Okada rider at Awutu Mampong.

Authorities confirm that two such cases have occurred within a 24-hour period.
