Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is optimistic about the Black Stars’ prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team has the quality to compete strongly on the global stage.

The tournament, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

Speaking to 3Sports, Gyan—who serves as Brand Ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football—said the squad has promising talent capable of making an impact, but admitted concerns about the level of experience within the group.

“We have the tools. We have young players coming up. The experience is a bit dicey. As somebody who has been in the game, we will do everything, we will give our support,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are currently in camp in Cardiff as preparations continue for next month’s international friendly against Wales. Thirteen players have reported so far, including Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jordan Ayew, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Elisha Owusu, Gideon Mensah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku, Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Solomon Agbasi, and Alidu Seidu.

The group trained at Dragon Park on Monday, with the remaining players from the 28-man provisional squad expected to join camp on Tuesday.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Having exited at the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, the Black Stars will be aiming to reach the knockout rounds for the first time in over a decade.
