Singer Kelvyn Boy says Ghanaians are not championing enough for the fruits of Ghana’s Highlife genre.

According to him, it is Ghana’s highlife genre that birthed the Afrobeats genre, which is climbing fast in the music space.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Friday, the ‘Ginger’ hitmaker, who released his ‘T.I.M.E’ album not too long ago, urged musicians to uphold the highlife legacy.

He explained that, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA’s) not including Afrobeats genre in its scheme shows music pundits don’t have highlife at heart.

“We don’t have Afrobeats in our awards scheme. We did Afrobeats 50 years back before Nigerians started. It got influenced by highlife and a lot of songs we jam to now are Afrobeats songs.

“Imagine we don’t even have our own Afrobeats. Last week, Cardi B said we should pay attention to Afrobeats. I saw bloggers carrying that up,” he said.
