The Minister for Sports and Recreation has disclosed that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is yet to sign his full contract despite his official unveiling.

The 73-year-old Portuguese tactician, who has replaced Otto Addo, has been handed an initial four-month deal to guide the Black Stars through the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America.

Following his unveiling, Queiroz has embarked on a European tour as part of his early preparations, with plans to engage several Ghanaian players ahead of the global tournament.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the minister clarified that discussions over the coach’s remuneration are still ongoing and dismissed reports claiming he would earn $100,000 per month.

“I will check the figures [of his salary] because we have not finalised and signed the full contract and everything, so I cannot give the exact figure, but it’s not up to $100,000,” he said.

He further explained that the agreement with Queiroz is strictly short-term, centred on the World Cup campaign.

“The condition we agreed was that we were going for a short-term contract, maximum four months, for the period of the World Cup, but the performance would determine any further agreement,” Mr Adams added.

Queiroz is expected to announce his World Cup squad in the coming weeks, with high-profile friendlies against Mexico and Wales lined up as part of Ghana’s final preparation phase. The Black Stars will wrap up their build-up with a clash against Wales on June 2.

Ghana, heading into their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

After back-to-back early exits in 2014 and 2022, expectations are growing for a more competitive showing under the experienced leadership of Queiroz.
