The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed calm confidence over the Black Stars’ prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting he is not under pressure despite heightened expectations.
Ghana Black Stars will feature at the global tournament for the fifth time when the competition kicks off in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The team has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
With newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz tasked with steering the side, the Sports Minister has set an ambitious target, urging the squad to reach at least the semi-final stage of the competition.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Mr Adams stressed that his approach is guided by planning and conviction rather than anxiety.
“I am doing everything possible to ensure that we do things the right way. I am not nervous, but I am rather calculated in doing things, and if I am convinced about what I am doing, nothing stops me,” Mr Adams said.
He added that while pressure is inevitable in his role, he remains focused and composed.
“Pressure will come, but I will not let it consume me as a Sports Minister,” he added.
Ghana Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
After early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, expectations are rising that the Black Stars will deliver a stronger performance this time under Queiroz’s leadership.
