Six students of Leklebi Senior High School (SHS) in the Volta Region have sustained minor injuries while attempting to put out a fire that gutted the apartment of a housemaster.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, stating that the fire prompted a swift response from firefighters from the Hohoe Fire Station.

According to the Service, it received a distress call at about 4:21 p.m., after which a firefighting team led by the Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, was immediately dispatched to the school.

When firefighters arrived, they found the Housemaster’s apartment, located on the top floor, fully engulfed in flames.

The crew quickly began firefighting operations and managed to contain the blaze before it spread to other buildings on the school compound.

The GNFS said the six injured students, all males, were hurt while trying to extinguish the fire before the firefighters arrived.

In all, eight people required medical attention following the incident.

The Service explained that a male and a female occupant of the affected apartment also collapsed after learning that the apartment was on fire.

All eight individuals were treated at the hospital and later discharged, with investigations underway to establish the cause of the fire.
