Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed his ambition to return to management after parting ways with the Ghana national team.
The 50-year-old trainer, who was handed the Black Stars job for a second time in March 2024, was dismissed earlier this year following a disappointing run of results, although he had successfully guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo’s departure came after Ghana endured four successive friendly defeats against South Korea, Japan, Germany and Austria as part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup tournament in North America.
Despite the setback, the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach insists his passion for coaching remains intact and says he is eager to take up a new challenge in the future.
Speaking in an interview with German publication 11 Freunde, Addo admitted that he still sees himself working on the touchline, either as a head coach or in an assistant role.
“I am at a certain age now [that] I do believe that I want to continue as a coach or assistant coach,” he said.
“[Being an] Assistant coach will also bring me a lot of joy, and of course, in certain areas I would like to naturally like to prove myself as a coach,” Addo added.
Following his dismissal by the Ghana Football Association, Addo recently remained involved in the game through his role with FIFA’s Technical Study Group during the 2026 World Cup.
The German-born Ghanaian coach is now looking ahead to his next opportunity, with a desire to continue building his reputation in coaching at club or international level.
