Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has described his move from AFC Bournemouth to Manchester City as “tough”, saying former manager Pep Guardiola made his early months at the club challenging as he adjusted to a new environment.
The 26-year-old made the comments after being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season, describing the recognition as a reward for a journey that has taken him through all four divisions of English football.
“It’s an honour to be standing next to these players. It’s amazing and, yeah, it’s been a long journey,” Semenyo said.
Reflecting on his transition to Manchester City, the Ghana international said adapting to Guardiola’s methods was demanding but ultimately beneficial to his development.
“It was tough. Pep made it tough for me coming in, but I’ve enjoyed every minute, and I’m improving every day,” he said.
Semenyo enjoyed an outstanding Premier League campaign, scoring 21 goals across the season — 10 for Bournemouth before his move and 11 for Manchester City.
He also provided six assists, with three recorded for each club.
His performances earned him recognition among the league’s standout players in the PFA’s annual team selection.
Semenyo is expected to feature when Manchester City travel to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night.
