According to him, he woke up to a text message from Mr. Mahama on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, which he interpreted as a personal threat.

“I woke up to Farouk Mahama’s message around five in the morning. He sent me a message, ‘good morning, my lawyers are working on suing the journalist and all involved for defamation. Rest my case. The name of the game is evidence, not just allegations,” the President said.

He made this known on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Wednesday.

This allegation comes after the journalist accused the Yendi MP of physically assault during a commotion at the recently held New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in Yendi.

To Mr. Dwumfuor, the message was a personal threat and vowed to address it accordingly.

“We want to let him know that as journalists, we don’t dwell on assumptions and suspicions. We only base on facts and evidence, and I see this as a personal threat. Because if you want to go to court, go to court” the GJA President stated.

He, therefore, called on Mr. Mahama to report himself to the police before rendering any apology to the Association for his conduct.

Mr. Dwumfuor reiterated the GJA’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of journalists across the country, stressing their determination to combat any form of aggression towards journalists.

Farouk Mahama to sue reporter over assault allegations https://www.adomonline.com/farouk-mahama-to-sue-reporter-over-assault-allegations/ Tue, 30 Jan 2024 09:37:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2349173 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Yendi constituency in the Northern region, Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama, has vowed to sue Citi TV/FM correspondent, Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira.

This comes after reporter accused the legislator of assault while covering the NPP parliamentary primaries on Saturday January 27, 2024.

Mr. Alabira alleged that, the MP slapped him and his supporters also attacked him, seizing his phone in the process.

He lodged a complaint at the Yendi Divisional Police Command after the alleged assault.

But Farouk Mahama on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, denied the allegations claiming that, the journalist just wants to tarnished his reputation.

He has therefore resolved to sue the journalist for defamation of character.

”I leave you to God, but I will sue you. I never touched Mohammed. There were so many media men around, why would I slap him and why would he be the only person claiming that. I have instructed my lawyer to take legal action against Mohammed Aminu for defamation of character and they are currently working on it” he stated.

Mr. Mahama indicated that, when the supposed attack happened, he was not even present at the scene.

The MP said he has a good relationship with journalists and even provided refreshments for those who were his house after the elections.

He vowed to protect his image hence will not allow baseless allegations to tarnish his reputation.

Farouk Aliu Mahama called on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to investigate the matter.

NPP primaries: I will patiently await party’s directive – Yendi MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-i-will-patiently-await-partys-directive-yendi-mp/ Mon, 29 Jan 2024 23:59:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2349016 Member of Parliament for the Yendi constituency in the Northern region, Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama who contested the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, says he will patiently await the decision of the party on the winner.

His comments follow a disruption that occurred in the constituency during the counting of the ballot on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Reports indicate that despite the absence of an official declaration, both candidates – Farouk Mahama and his contender, Abibata Shani, had individually proclaimed victory following the contest.

Subsequently, the Electoral Commission said there was no recognised winner in the constituency while NPP said it was waiting for a report into what led to the incident.

On the back of this, Mr Mahama insists that the disturbance was started by his opponent’s relative because it was clear that he was able to maintain his candidacy.

Nevertheless, speaking on Joy FM’TopStory, he said he would wait for the party’s verdict on the matter.

“As a democratic member, I am still a member of parliament for Yendi and I have the support of the people and the delegates.

“I will patiently wait for the outcome of the party and the general secretary’s direction,” he said on January 29, 2024.

He assured that he was a democratic leader who goes by the dictates of democracy; therefore, he would not do anything to tarnish his reputation.

“I am the PC [parliamentary candidate] and MP currently and I am a democratic person who really believes in democracy so I will not do anything untoward to bend the hard-earned reputation of my tribe and the good people of Yendi. I am still the MP and I will lead the party to the 2024 election,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested one suspect and is on a manhunt for others in Yendi, Northern Region, for election-related violence.

But Farouk Mahama is yet to make comments on the video which has gone viral on social media.
