The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asadu Royal Waste Limited, Dr Edward Asadu has cited indiscipline in Ghanaian society as the cause of the numerous sanitation problems in the country.
According to the man whose company has been in charge of the collection of garbage in some parts of Accra over the years, the lack of discipline on the part of Ghanaians has made the work more difficult.
“The people are not disciplined, that is our main problem…people just litter the city anyhow without and besides our city guards are not proactive enough…,” he said on the ‘Fabewoso’ segment of Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’.
Sanitation has been one of the major issues in the country and this caused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint a Sanitation Minister to help ensure cleanliness in the country.
The President subsequently pledged his commitment to making Accra the cleanest city on the African continent within the next four years.
“The commitment I want to make, and for all of us to make, is that by the end of my term in office, Accra will be the cleanest city on the entire African continent. That is the commitment I am making,” the President pledged.
This vision of the President, Dr Asadu said would not materialize if Ghanaians fail to change their attitude.
He further demanded that the laws on sanitation must be implemented to the latter as part of efforts to solving the sanitation issue.
“People will continue to be dirty, we need the laws to regulate us, the laws on sanitation must work…people who fail to pay for carrying their refuse and yet no law binds them…” he said.
The CEO of Asadu Royal Waste further advocated for the passage of laws that ‘will dictate that the moment you dump refuse, you will be arrested and made to pay a spot fine….’
