Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has expressed deep concern over allegations involving a young girl who was allegedly defiled by her biological father, a police inspector, and later infected with HIV.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, the former Member of Parliament for Agona West said she was shocked by the incident and could not comprehend how such an act could happen within a family.
“I can’t even understand why a man, with his own child, will go ahead and sleep with her. If this is not spiritual, I don’t see why a man would have the sense to do that,” she said.
She further noted that even among extended family members, such behaviour would be unthinkable.
“Even cousins won’t go to that extent, even if they are not aware of their siblings, let alone a father doing that,” she added.
Mrs Morrison stressed that while the incident is deeply disturbing, attention must now focus on the welfare and protection of the child.
“Now there is sickness in it, and what has happened has already happened. So what can we do to help the child, as the crime has already taken place? We have to think about the safety of the child,” she said.
The comments follow allegations made by the child’s mother during the same programme. According to her, the abuse allegedly began when the girl went to stay with her father in Garu after years of not knowing him.
She said the father allegedly forced himself on the girl during her first visit.
The mother further claimed that the child later underwent a medical examination at an undisclosed hospital, where she was diagnosed with HIV.
