A private legal practitioner, Yaw Oppong has described the presentation of the bill on vigilantism to Parliament by the Attorney General, Ms Gloria Akuffo as a step in the right direction.

The bill, which outlines how government intends to deal with activities of political vigilantism in Ghana, was on Thursday presented to Parliament for consideration by the House.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Thursday, Mr Oppong explained that the direction President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has chosen confirms his commitment to fight vigilantism.

“If we say this is the final solution, that word final itself is very important because it means that there have been other steps taken including the Commission of Inquiry that was set up. I believe the President received the report and authorised the Attorney General to present this bill,” he noted.

“It means that whatever is contained in that report, in the view of the President may be a way to supplement the law or be a springboard for a law to be enacted instead of a convention or mere recommendation. So this is a step in the right direction,” he added.
