“I prefer ugly noises to a culture of silence”, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said while commenting on the criticisms and backlash the public university reform draft bill had attracted.
To Mr Baako, he likes the idea of the varying views that are coming out of the draft bill, though he thinks it is wrong for those commenting on the issue to make their views public.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Thursday, Mr Baako stated that the intensity and the scope of the discussion was too early and therefore needless.

“I prefer ugly noises to a culture of silence so I like the idea even though we all strive for the middle ground which is responsible speech, but let the noise continue because sometimes you can pick some positives from the noise.
“But at this stage, the noise should not be coming from those who are official recipients of the draft bill who are supposed to formally communicate their reservations, views and corrections and opinions to the appropriate quarters. That is what will help for a far better bill to be drawn,” he urged.
Mr Baako, stressed that it was important for all stakeholders who have received copies of the draft bill to contribute as they ought to, to the appropriate bodies.

“It is unfair if the Vice Chancellors and union leaders, who have been given a copy to contribute their quota to this matter for it to be finalised by Cabinet and be delivered to Parliament formally for legislative processes to begin, make this a public discourse,” Mr Baako stated.
