An Accra High Court judge, Justice Alexander Osei Tutu is calling on Ghanaians to accept the introduction of a paperless system, which is popularly known as E-justice, into the operations of the judiciary.
He
said this will enable effective running of cases in court.
Justice Tutu said sometimes documents of cases in dockets get missing and that delays the processing of cases in court.
He added that under the digital casing system, defendants and plaintiffs who cannot make it to court could be heard through Skype or video calls.
On how complainants could file their cases, Justice Tutu said, people could file their cases on their website-‘ejustice.jsg.gov.gh’– or go to any court with their valid identity card and agents at vantage points would assist them.
He also assured Ghanaians of the safety of their cases and said the system could not be hacked.
A representative from the Ghana Bar Association and a member of the E-Justice Steering Committee, Susanna Nyampong added that the introduction of the paperless system would help clients get updates on their cases.
She said the system has been automated to deliver text messages to update clients on their cases.
Ms Nyampong said duplication of suit numbers, handwritten documentation and manually created files, manual payments, and receipts for court processes, which may result in fraudulent activities, delays in court processes, among other challenging factors would be a thing of the past.
With the introduction of the e-Justice System, there would be an electronic platform for process filing, process service, fee assessment, automated allocation of cases to courts, judges’ calendar management and the execution of court decisions for all cases, causes and matters filed in the Registries of the court.
Justice Tutu pleaded with Ghanaians to accept the new system in good faith because the manual system is tiring and waste of time and money.
