Fishermen are divided over a pending fishing ban in August by the Fisheries Commission to allow regeneration of the dwindling fishing stock in Ghanaian waters.

While some are ready to work with government’s initiative, others believe the timing is wrong and need to be looked at.

The commission began preparations last year to implement the ban in August to help solve the low catch syndrome.

Fishermen are expected to resume fishing activities in September when the eggs are hatched and matured.

Moree Chief Fisherman, Nana Kwegya, and Apam Chief fisherman Obeng Sekyi are in agreement but are calling on government to provide alternative sources of income to keep them afloat for the ban period.
