There is a growing friction between residents of Hiawoanwu at Ejura and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Mohammed Sualisu Bamba after he allegedly seized a waste bin for the community.

The Muslim dominated farming community has been angered by the MCE’s decision to seize a waste bin that was sent to the area to tackle sanitation problems.

The situation has created a tensed political climate as some elders and opinion leaders  are contemplating petitioning the regional minister and declaring the MCE persona non grata.

According to the area’s assembly man, Yakubu Ibrahim, the community has unanimously decided not cooperate with the MCE in any affair unless the waste bin is returned.

He said, Hon. Bamba since his appointment has deliberately been  refusing to bring development to the community following accusations that residents there did not vote for the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 elections.

The assembly man rejects the allegation as unfounded and condemned the MCE for taking such a divisive political posture towards the residents.

Recounting the incident to Adom News, the assembly man disclosed that the rubbish container was brought to the community in October last year after two years of intense lobbying and follow-ups by him.

He added that immediately the waste bin was brought to the community, the MCE allegedly ordered for it to be removed and brought back to the Municipal capital, which is some 12kms away.

According to the assembly man, sanitation conditions have  since deteriorated in the community following the incident.

He said there was an imminent threat of disease outbreak in the community as rubbish are now being dumped at backyards and in gutters.

The assembly man appealed to the regional minister to advise the MCE to bring back the container to prevent escalation.

He also appealed to the MCE to be a father for all  and stop being misled by a few selfish individuals feeding him lies and propaganda.

The MCE refused to comment on the matter when Adom News contacted him on phone.
