Head of Virology at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Prof William Ampofo, has said they have cleared all backlogs of testing for the virus.

This, he stated, has relieved them of the public pressure to give timely results of the test done on suspected patients in 24 hours.

However, at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine, Prof. Ampofo said there are currently 1,982 backlog of cases awaiting testing.

These, he added, will be cleared by Thursday, May 7, 2020.

Speaking at a media briefing on the COVID-19 fight in Accra Tuesday, the Virologist said by the end of May, every region in the country will have a testing centre.

He noted that if these systems are put in place, it is possible to begin providing daily updates on test results now that the backlogs have been cleared.

On Ghana’s Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT) plans for the Covid-19, Prof. Ampofo said  the guidelines have been published.

“Evaluation of RDT test kits is ongoing and results will soon be published, but the current testing regime remains,” he added.
