A Ghanaian living in China, Wuhan, precisely where the deadly coronavirus fist struck, has given a chilling account of what unfolded before his very eyes.

Owusu Antwi who shared his experience on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Friday said though the city of Wuhan was recovering, a lockdown imposed on the city some two months ago still remains in force.

He said for those periods where the virus was in full flight, it felt like “the end of the world” for every inhabitant.

“When the outbreak was at its peak, people were dying every minute; it was as if we were living right on graves because people were buried each and every day. Health staff were overwhelmed as patients waited for hours to see a doctor,” he narrated.

Mr Antwi said by the end of the first three weeks of the outbreak – second week of January to the first week of February 2020 – there were 186,354 persons under medical watch with 28,018 confirmed as having tested positive, 1,153 recoveries and 564 deaths.

He observed that considering the statistics, especially the number of recoveries against deaths showed the Chinese Government was gradually gaining control over the pandemic and were better placed to contain and tackle it’s spread.
