Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei says Ghana’s technical team has assembled a promising and ambitious squad for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico.

A 23-man team has been named for the fixture, which forms part of the Black Stars’ build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking in an interview with Flashscore, Ofei highlighted the blend of youth and local talent in the group, stressing the importance of the opportunity for players to prove themselves.

“For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz,” he said.

After the clash with Mexico, Ghana will round off their World Cup preparations with another friendly against Wales on June 2.

The Black Stars, who will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, have been drawn in a tough Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and complete the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Ghana will be aiming to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010, having suffered early exits in both 2014 and 2022.
