A follow-up by Adom News on the indiscriminate disposal of expired fizzy drinks at Mallam Gbawe has yielded results, with the municipal assembly stepping in to clear the area after concerns were raised over the potential health risks.
The initial Adom News report exposed how a distributor had dumped large quantities of expired soft drinks within a residential neighbourhood, thereby exposing residents, particularly children, to danger.

At the time of the earlier visit, the Adom News team observed residents and other individuals arriving to collect the expired drinks in bulk, while neighbours disclosed that schoolchildren frequently picked some of the beverages for consumption.
Residents had earlier appealed to the distributor to stop the practice, but their concerns were allegedly ignored.
Following the publication of the report, Adom News contacted the municipal assembly to draw urgent attention to the situation.

In an interview, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mariama Olivia Braimah, indicated that the assembly had no prior knowledge of the dumping but immediately activated its environmental health team after receiving the information.
Environmental safety officers from the assembly were subsequently dispatched to the area to remove the expired drinks and sanitise the location.

The intervention has been welcomed by residents, who commended Adom News and the assembly for responding swiftly to what many described as a serious public health threat.
