A 40-year-old woman, identified only as Auntie Esi, has allegedly butchered her husband to death following a dispute over proceeds from charcoal sales at Ekumfi Asaman in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region.

The deceased, identified as Kweku Blankson, was reportedly attacked while asleep after tensions escalated between the couple.

According to information gathered, the couple were farmers who also produced and sold local charcoal within the community.

Residents said the incident stemmed from an argument on Wednesday after the woman allegedly accused her husband of withholding a larger share of money realised from the charcoal sales.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the disagreement became heated, during which the deceased allegedly assaulted his wife.

Speaking to Adom News, a resident of the community, Isaac Panyin Mensah, said the woman reportedly became enraged following the assault.

According to him, while the husband was asleep later that night, the suspect allegedly went into the kitchen, picked up a sharp cutlass belonging to the husband, and attacked him.

The victim sustained severe injuries and was initially rushed to Mankessim Hospital before being referred to Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The incident has thrown the community into shock, while police are expected to continue investigations into the matter.
