Questions are being raised about the operations of Heath Goldfields at the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, following allegations of poor mining practices and unsafe working conditions.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen during its engagement in Prestea, Energy FM journalist Ebenezer Wiafe criticised the company, accusing it of damaging local infrastructure and failing to meet acceptable operational standards.
“Heath Goldfields is not engaging in proper mining practices. They are destroying our roads, and reports indicate that the underground conditions of the mine are unsafe for operations. So why have they been granted a mining permit?” he questioned.
The concerns come amid growing tensions in the Prestea area, where former mine workers have expressed frustration over layoffs and what they describe as a lack of engagement by the company.
However, Heath Goldfields has rejected the allegations, describing them as inaccurate and misleading.
The company maintains that its operations are being carried out in line with an approved Mine Development Plan and under the supervision of the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
