A delegation from the Nigerian Correctional Service has paid a working visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison and the Nsawam Female Prison to understudy the operational systems and rehabilitation programmes of the Ghana Prisons Service.

The delegation, led by LC Cyrus, toured the prison facilities as part of efforts to exchange knowledge on correctional practices in line with international best standards.

The Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service and Officer in Charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Patrick Thomas Seidu, welcomed the visitors and briefed them on the operations and management systems of the facility.

At the Nsawam Female Prison, the delegation toured the exhibition centre and other rehabilitation facilities where they observed various inmate empowerment programmes.

These included vocational training, non-formal education, ICT programmes, prison industries and healthcare services aimed at preparing inmates for reintegration into society.

The visiting officials also purchased some products made by inmates in support of the rehabilitation initiatives.

The delegation later visited the Nsawam Prison Hospital, where Chief Superintendent of Prison Dr. Lawrence Acheampong briefed them on the structure and operations of the Prisons Health Directorate and the healthcare delivery system within the Ghana Prisons Service.
