The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously endorsed Gianni Infantino for another term as President of FIFA.

In a statement released on Thursday, April 30, CAF said its member associations backed Infantino during a meeting held on Wednesday in Vancouver, ahead of the 76th FIFA Congress.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) held a meeting today, Wednesday 29 April 2026, in Vancouver, Canada, on the eve of the 76th FIFA Congress, and the CAF Member Associations unanimously agreed to support Gianni Infantino to be re-elected as President of FIFA for the period 2027–2031,” the statement said.

The endorsement was confirmed by CAF’s 54 member associations, underlining Africa’s strong backing for the current FIFA president.

Although Infantino has not formally announced plans to contest the next election, support from both CAF and CONMEBOL, South America’s governing body, has intensified expectations that he will seek another mandate.

Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and remains eligible to stand again following a rules interpretation made in 2022.

At the time, FIFA’s governance, audit and compliance committee ruled that his initial partial term from 2016 to 2019 would not count toward the organisation’s 12-year or three-term limit.

That decision effectively opened the door for the Swiss-Italian football administrator to continue in office beyond his current mandate.
