Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have revealed the right eye of a Kotoko fan who was shot at the Baba Yara Staium on Sunday is damaged.

A Kotoko supporter identified as Kwasi Oppong was left in critical condition after he was hit by a warning shot fired by the police at the stadium.

Doctors had earlier assured the patient was responding to treatment after being rushed to the facility on Sunday.

The doctors on duty at KATH confirmed the damage in an interview with LUV FM’s Delali Tiase on a visit to the emergency unit to check on the patient.

Meanwhile, wife of the patient speaking in an interview on Joy News said she was yet to see the extent of damage for herself.

She revealed that Mr Oppong, who is the breadwinner of the family and ‘Trotro’ driver, was also a father of two.

Before the incidence, there had been a confrontation between Kotoko fans and security during the match. The fans, unhappy with some refereeing decisions, started throwing bottles and sachets of water onto the field. This halted the game for several minutes towards the end.

After the match, referee, Charles Bulu and his assistant had to be heavily guarded before being able to leave the pitch.
