Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that the additional winning bonuses owed to Ghana’s players, technical team members, and management officials following qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are yet to be paid.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Minister explained that an agreement reached before the resumption of the qualifiers in 2025 stipulated a split-payment arrangement.

Under the deal, 50 per cent of the agreed bonuses would be paid upfront, while the remaining half would be released upon successful qualification.

According to him, although Ghana secured qualification, the outstanding portion of the payments is still pending.

“Qualification bonus yet to be paid to players. We had an agreement with the players that 50 per cent of the bonuses would be paid to the players, and after qualification, the additional 50 per cent would be paid.

“As it stands, the qualification bonus, which is the additional 50 per cent, is yet to be paid to the players,” he said.

Mr Adams further confirmed that former head coach Otto Addo is also among those awaiting payment of the outstanding bonus.

“Otto Addo qualified the team for the World Cup, and we are yet to pay him the additional 50 per cent of the qualification bonus,” he added.

Ghana topped their qualifying group with 25 points to book a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking their fifth appearance at the global tournament.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
