The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has lauded Ghanaian football fans for their role in the Black Stars’ qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
After a difficult start to the qualifiers, the Black Stars secured qualification to the Mundial, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, the sector minister acknowledged the challenges faced when they assumed office, but praised the impact of fans following the team’s qualification.
“Before Mahama came into office, there was a disconnect between the fans and the team, but suddenly things took a different turn, and we saw fans at the stadia,” the Buem MP said.
“I thank the 12th man, the fans, for their support because without them, it would have been difficult, and since then, it has been a good story after another,” he added.
Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
