Defeated Ashanti regional chairman of the National Democratic (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has been urged not to give up as he still has a big role to play in the party.

According to the chairman of the Ashanti regional council of elders, Frank Osei Mensah, Joseph Yamin, together with other defeated candidates should rather work extra hard to make the party attractive.

Yamin is still relevant in the party. The world is not over for him because; I can assure him that he rather has a big role to play in the NDC. In those days we had party members who were defeated in various elections but they never gave up. Winning power in 2020 is more important now and so we need to work on that,” he said.

Joseph Yamin was beaten by 88 votes by incumbent Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ashanti Region elections held on Saturday.

But he has not taken his defeat well, accusing national chairman aspirant, Betty Mould Iddrisu of masterminding it.

Some members of the ruling NPP, for instance, claim Joseph Yamin lost in his bid to become the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NDC because of internal tribal politics in his party.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Friday, Mr Osei Mensah, denied such claims.

According to him, the party is fiercely against tribalism and would not allow its members to be involved in such acts.

For us, as a party, we never engaged in such acts and so those saying that Yamin was ousted because he is Fulani was not true,” he noted.

The list of candidates, there was only two Ashantis and rest were from the Northern part of the country so how could they make such claims” he quizzed.

Mr Osei Mensah indicated that what the party needs to do as a minority party in the Ashanti Region is to unite so as to be strong enough to fight the NPP who are in majority in the region.
