The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, says the recent kidnappings, murders and political vigilantism in Ghana must be a wake-up call to the country.
According to Rev Prof Asante, the recent acts must serve as a reminder to all Ghanaians on the need to work hard to sustain the peace in the country.

“The need for peace in this country has never been more apparent at this present time when our elections are more fiercely contested and our youth are becoming increasingly agitated over limited opportunities.
“Political vigilantism, kidnappings and murders of prominent persons with impunity are eating into the very fabric of our society with extremism looming large over our continent,” he said.
Speaking at a National Peace Forum, organised by the Council at the University of Ghana, Legon, he urged each citizen to play active role in ensuring peace in the country.

“It is in view of the foregoing that I make a call on all worthy citizens both home and abroad to back up because the task ahead is critical and will require your full commitment and dedication,” he said.
Reverend Asante also acknowledged the role of foreign partners in peace and nation building in Ghana.

He also had a message for the media: “I will acknowledge the media for the role they play in peace building but will appeal to you to be circumspect in your reportage.”
