The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is embarking on a polling station audit ahead of the 2020 general election.

The move, according to the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is to ensure the party is not shortchanged in the elections.

The NDC was dealt a heavy blow in the 2016 election when then opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo won the election with 53.5 percent.

Its candidate, former President John Mahama polled 44.4 percent of the total votes cast – a situation which was described by political pundits as the poorest performance of the NDC.

To avoid such an embarrassment in the crucial 2020 elections, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said they are focusing more on strategy.

In an exclusive interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, he said they had issues with the figures churned out from some of the polling stations in the 2016 general election.

He noted that, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is leading the audit team nationwide to tour those polling stations and put in place measures to secure their votes.

The NDC Chairman stressed that, they have learnt their lessons a bitter way and does not intend to repeat them.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said their executives are on red alert to police the ballot to thwart the mission of the government to rig the elections.
