Ghana’s Black Princesses have secured passage to the next stage of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after edging past South Africa on aggregate.
The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, setting up a tense return encounter.
Head coach Charles Simpson responded to last week’s frustrations by fielding a strong lineup for the decisive second leg.
The reverse fixture at the Mbombela Stadium was evenly contested, with the opening half ending goalless.
Ghana, however, raised the tempo after the break and were rewarded in the 63rd minute when Priscilla Mensah found the net, sealing a crucial 1-0 victory and confirming qualification.
Despite a late attempt from South Africa, the Black Princesses were able to hold onto their lead, going on to claim a 3-2 aggregate win.
The Black Princesses will now await the winner of the tie between Zambia and Uganda in the next round.
Ghana are chasing a record eighth consecutive appearance at the tournament, which will be hosted in Poland in September 2026.
