The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, has warned that buying a FIFA World Cup match ticket does not automatically guarantee a visa to travel to Canada.

She gave the caution during the National Forum on Trafficking Through Sports, held on Thursday, 16 April 2026, at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) Conference Hall, Legon.

According to her, Canada has already put firm measures in place to help prevent human trafficking ahead of the global tournament.

She explained that some fraudsters may take advantage of the excitement around the World Cup to deceive people with false travel promises.

“A match ticket is not a visa. Every traveller must still satisfy the required immigration procedures before travelling,” she stated.

Ms. Montrat urged the public to be careful and avoid paying money to anyone claiming they can guarantee entry into Canada through a World Cup ticket.

She advised prospective travellers to rely only on official information from embassies and recognised agencies when making travel arrangements.

The Canadian High Commissioner also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to working with international partners to fight human trafficking and promote safe migration.

The event formed part of efforts to raise awareness about trafficking through sports and protect vulnerable people from exploitation.
