A serious road accident has been reported near Tafo, close to Kintampo in the Bono East Region.

The crash involved a trailer truck transporting cement from Kumasi to Bolgatanga and a Toyota Hiace commercial minibus carrying 15 passengers, also travelling from Kumasi to Tamale.

Emergency response teams from Kintampo and Jema, with support from Tuobodom, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite the absence of a functional ambulance, the Kintampo team arrived first due to proximity, followed by the Jema crew, while an additional ambulance was later deployed to assist with evacuation.

Out of the 15 occupants, 11—comprising 10 males and one female—sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Kintampo Municipal Hospital.

The victims suffered various forms of trauma, including head injuries, fractures and deep lacerations.

Two critically injured persons were later referred to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital Trauma Centre for specialised treatment.

Three others with minor injuries were also taken to hospital by other means.

Preliminary investigations by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service indicate that the minibus ran into a stationary trailer truck parked along the roadside near the Tafo Gaso Fuel Station.

Authorities say the swift response by emergency teams helped minimise further fatalities, while investigations are ongoing.
