The family of the late renowned inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has expressed concern over delays in accessing his body ahead of his final funeral rites.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, said the family has made several attempts to engage with Adwoa Safo to facilitate discussions on the funeral arrangements and traditional rites, but those efforts have been unsuccessful.

According to him, the family is particularly worried about their inability to see and access the body of the late Apostle.

“The funeral is the issue now. As a family, we have tried all our possible means to speak to our daughter, Adwoa Safo, but she has refused to listen to us,” he said.

He added that the family’s intention is to ensure that traditional customs are properly observed before the burial.

“In Akan tradition, when someone dies, the family must be involved in the arrangements. We have even tried to speak to her to know where our father’s body is being kept so we can perform the necessary rites, but she has closed her ears to us,” he explained.

Dr. Kissi stressed that the family’s focus is solely on retrieving the body for a dignified burial, separating church matters from family and traditional responsibilities.

“As a family, our aim is to get the body of our father and bury him. Whatever the church is doing is their own matter and constitution. We have no idea about that,” he stated.

He further raised concern over not having access to the body.

“As I am speaking with you, we have not seen the body and we do not know where it is now,” he said.

Dr. Kissi also cautioned that any mismanagement of the situation could create complications for the family’s traditional responsibilities.

“If the family does not take action and something goes wrong, it may appear as though we failed in our duty. That is why we are insisting on seeing the body,” he noted.

He described the late Apostle Safo as a peaceful man who would have preferred a dignified and well-organised burial.

“Our late father was a peaceful man who does not like conflict. All we want is to lay him to rest properly,” he added.

The comments come in the wake of a reported shooting incident on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in which Adwoa Safo allegedly sustained a gunshot wound to her left ear while visiting the residence of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

The incident is believed to be linked to tensions over a succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder.

Meanwhile, the family has announced revised burial arrangements for the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, with the funeral now scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations between family leaders and church authorities.
