Akwatia Member of Parliament, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, saying the current administration’s performance has positioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongly ahead of the next general election.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the lawmaker said the government’s economic management and fiscal discipline have significantly improved compared to previous years.
“The way President Mahama is governing, any candidate the NDC elects is unlikely to face much difficulty winning the next election. Everything is going very well,” he said.
Mr Baidoo acknowledged that President Mahama’s first administration faced challenges but argued that the current government has demonstrated remarkable improvement.
“I know in his first term there were some issues. However, things have changed. If you look at the trajectory the country is going, especially the financial discipline, we should stop the politics and tell the truth.
“Ato Forson is doing so well, but he is being guided by President Mahama. I believe that will be the greatest legacy he will leave behind,” he said.
According to the MP, the administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline has helped restore confidence in the country’s economy.
“His financial discipline is one I applaud very much. We’ve not seen all those notorious scandals we used to witness under previous governments,” he noted.
Mr Baidoo also cited Ghana’s recent repayment of a €700 million Eurobond ahead of schedule without resorting to additional borrowing as evidence of prudent economic management.
“We have paid the €700 million Eurobond ahead of time without borrowing,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to acknowledge government successes instead of focusing solely on political differences.
“Let’s highlight the things that are going well in this country because things used to be bad,” he stated.
The Akwatia MP further noted that key social intervention programmes introduced by previous administrations, including the Free Senior High School policy and the Capitation Grant, have been maintained under the current government.
He expressed optimism that President Mahama would sustain his current approach until the end of his tenure and urged any future administration to continue the policies that have yielded positive results.
