An 11-year-old boy has drowned in a dugout pond at Adenta Aviation, near the KNUST campus in Accra.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday morning, prompting an emergency response from rescue personnel.

Firefighters and rescue officers arrived at the scene at about 8:55 a.m. and immediately launched a search operation to locate the child.

After nearly two hours of intensive search efforts, the boy’s lifeless body was recovered from the pond at approximately 10:55 a.m.

The body has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for the necessary procedures.

The rescue operation involved personnel from the Adenta Fire Station, with support from other security and emergency service agencies.

The incident has renewed concerns over the dangers posed by uncovered and unprotected dugout ponds, especially in residential communities where children are at risk.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning while urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children and keep them away from hazardous water bodies.
