The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened to stage a demonstration if the Electoral Commission (EC) agrees to the National Democratic Congress(NDC) demand for a forensic audit of the 2024 voter register.
The NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua announced this in a tweet on X.
The NDC on Tuesday embarked on a nationwide demonstration to mount pressure on the EC to allow a forensic audit into the register over alleged irregularities.
Despite the EC’s initial refusal, the NDC in a petition insisted on an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register, an immediate publication of forensic audit findings of the voters’ register, a re-exhibition of the voters’ register post forensic audit, and a five-day re-exhibition of the voter’s register after forensic audit is completed.
In response, the EC expressed its willingness to engage with the NDC on their concerns.
However, Mr Kodua has said the NDC’s demand was needless, deceptive and a deliberate attempt to create tensions in the country.
