General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the office of the Special Prosecutor will be useless if the office is not independent.
He believes appointing a New Patriotic Party sympathiser to the position of a Special Prosecutor will not only be dangerous but also an affront to injustice.
This he compared to as having two Attorney Generals whose top most responsibility would be to prosecute only former appointees of the Mahama-government and not those in office today.
“I think the Special Prosecutor will be a waste of time and resources if the President appoints an NPP lawyer. If that is what they want to do, then I am sorry to say it will be a waste of time because they will end up prosecuting only NDC members,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, January 2, 2017, approved the Special Prosecutor’s bill into law, setting up the Special Prosecutor office.
But speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM on Tuesday, General Mosquito as he is affectionately called said the NDC has nothing to hide.
According to him, the NDC has been in support of the Special Prosecutor Bill, adding none of its members are afraid of the bill.
