Communications Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, says telecommunication networks in Ghana have agreed to compensate subscribers for loses they incurred over the upfront deductions following the 9% increase in Communication Service Tax (CST).
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful at a news conference on Monday, October 14, 2019 directed telcos to stop the upfront deductions.

“The Telcos have agreed to stop the upfront deductions and have agreed to compensate subscribers for costs and losses incurred during the upfront deduction period,” she said.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning show, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful explained the Mobile Network Operators have asked the Ministry to give them more time as they work on processes to halt the upfront deduction.

“We are meeting with the telcos today but they are to abide with the halt of upfront deductions within three weeks which they have agreed to. They have assured us they are working on processes to configure their system,” she said.
Commenting on sanctions against telcos that fail to comply with the directive, she added “the sanction against the telcos is not a threat but that is what the law says.”
