Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Francis Oti Akenten, has debunked the assertion that Ghana lacks quality trained coaches to manage its various football clubs.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr Akenten pointed out that it is not true that clubs cannot find coaches with CAF license ‘A’ certificate to hire to manage their clubs as is being demanded by the GFA.
The GFA, through its Club Licensing Board, is demanding a minimum of CAF license ‘A’ from any person who intends to coach a premier team such as Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak and license ‘B’ from assistant coaches.
Also, goalkeeper’s trainer and fitness trainer must possess a minimum of CAF license ‘C’; head of Youth development must have CAF license B’.
The GFA further said Division One Coaches must possess a minimum of CAF license ‘C’ or its equivalent.
Commenting on the development, Mr Akenten said Ghana has several coaches who have gone through proper training and their assessment too was done by foreigners and not examiners from Ghana.
“We have about five aspects that we consider; we have introductory coaches, Coach Educators, CAF ‘C’, CAF ‘B’ and CAF ‘A’. Normally, the introductory is a prerequisite for course after which you are allowed to do your license; it is a federation certificate,” he explained.
“When it comes to the license ‘C’, we have over 479 coaches, we have about 338 coaches with the ‘A’. We have over 150 coaches,” he told Kwadwo Mensah Moshosho.
