The Regional Economic Planning Officer (REPO) for Ahafo, Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, has appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to increase funding for the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to enable it to work more effectively.
He made the appeal at Goaso when the sector minister engaged staff of the RCC, municipal and district chief executives, among others. He explained that the current funds available for the RCC’s oversight responsibilities are insufficient.
According to him, the RCC would be better positioned to effectively monitor, coordinate and evaluate the work of municipal and district assemblies if additional financial and logistical support is provided.
He added that with adequate funding and resources, the RCC could strengthen its operations and even engage external consultants from reputable institutions to evaluate its programmes.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, urged the RCC and the municipal and district assemblies to work towards improving the lives of citizens at all levels.
He encouraged them to prioritise transparency, accountability and decentralisation to ensure equitable development.
He also called on the RCC to ensure that the assemblies comply with expected standards and make effective use of government projects.
