The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East in the Oti Region, Sarfo Nketia, has called on the contractor handling the 24-hour economy market project to prioritise local hiring in order to curb youth unemployment within the municipality.
Krachi East is among the areas benefiting from the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, championed by John Dramani Mahama.
The programme is aimed at improving livelihoods, transforming market infrastructure and creating sustainable employment by promoting round-the-clock commercial activity.

Speaking during the official handover of project documents and the construction site, the MCE confirmed that the land designated for the market is free from encumbrances.
He also assured the contractor of the assembly’s full cooperation to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
Sarfo Nketia emphasised that local participation must be central to the project’s execution, proposing that between 80% and 90% of the workforce be recruited from within Krachi East.
He noted that the project is expected to provide daily wage employment, which could offer timely support to many young people seeking work.
The MCE further cautioned prospective workers to demonstrate discipline and integrity on site, stressing that any theft of materials would result in immediate dismissal and possible police action.
He added, however, that workers who show commitment and diligence would be treated fairly and compensated accordingly.

On his part, Kofi Aidoo, Project Manager of Joy Joy Company for the 24-hour economy project in Dambai, disclosed that although the contract duration is 30 months, the contractor is targeting completion within 24 months.
He also indicated that the company will collaborate closely with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to prevent avoidable delays and ensure steady progress on the project.
