For years, darkness has defined life in Amangoase in the Juaben District of the Ashanti Region, with no access to electricity despite repeated promises.

Now, residents—mostly farmers—are taking matters into their own hands, contributing money from their menial jobs to mount electricity poles and connect their community to the national grid, in hopes of securing a better future for their children.
