The Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Joaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on the traditional authorities of the Asogli State in the Volta Region to take ownership of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme to ensure its success and sustainability across communities.
He made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Asogli State in Ho ahead of the official launch of the initiative in the Volta Regional capital.
The visit forms part of efforts to engage key stakeholders and seek the support of traditional leaders in promoting the programme among their people.
Addressing the chiefs and elders, Mr. Akandoh underscored the vital role traditional authorities play in shaping public attitudes and mobilising communities toward national development initiatives.
He urged them to become ambassadors of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme by educating their subjects on its benefits and encouraging them to take advantage of the services being provided.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services at the primary level while reducing the financial burden many Ghanaians face when seeking basic medical attention.

The Minister noted that the programme represents a major step towards achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied essential healthcare due to financial constraints.
He further appealed to the traditional leaders to monitor the implementation of the programme within their communities and work closely with health authorities to address any challenges that may arise.
The launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Ho is expected to benefit thousands of residents in the Volta Region by expanding access to essential healthcare services and strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system.
Togbe Anikpi III, Chief of Ho- Heve, who received the Minister on behalf of Togbe Afede XIV, welcomed the initiative and pledged their support towards its successful implementation. They assured the minister of their commitment to sensitising their communities and encouraging residents to embrace the programme.
James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, after receiving some of the equipment for the free primary healthcare for the Volta Region, thanked the Health Minister for bringing the initiative to the region.
He also pledged that the items received will be properly taken good care of for their intended purpose.
