The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at the GRIDCo Power Station in Techiman, preventing what could have been a major disaster at the facility.

According to the Bono East Regional Public Relations Office of the GNFS, a distress call was received by the Techiman Fire Station at about 5:22 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, reporting an electrical fire at the power station in the Techiman Municipality.

A six-member firefighting team, led by Assistant Station Officer (AstnO) Oppong Kyekyeku, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival at 5:27 a.m., the firefighters observed that one of the station’s capacitor banks had already been engulfed in flames.

After assessing the situation and implementing the necessary safety protocols, the team began firefighting operations using fire extinguishers available at the facility.

The swift response enabled the firefighters to bring the blaze under control within minutes, successfully preventing it from spreading to other critical installations at the power station.

The fire was brought under control at 5:35 a.m. and completely extinguished by 5:45 a.m.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
